Can you share any experiences in your life or that you have read. Dear Latha ~ I remember, when I saw Shree Maa and Swami a few years ago, Swami said several times, (paraphrase) if you want a guru, make yourself the perfect disciple. What came into my mind when I first read your question was "...and the first of these is love" (a quote from Jesus). I think you have the desire, and then you have the opportunity, and then you find that you are drawn inexplicably to that guru. On the other hand, in my case, my sister "dragged" me to see Amma the first time, but I was so very glad, and she "dragged me to see Karunamayi, and I was so very glad. She didn't drag me to see Shree Maa and Swami, but her devotion to them made me want to see them. Maybe the reason, season, lifetime thing applies to gurus too. I also remember Swami saying that a person may have one guru, and then another, and then even another, as if one is leading to the next, and the ultimate guru is Shiva. Beyond love, I think there is paying attention to whatever draws you into spiritual practice, and then paying attention to the practice, and then, most importantly, paying attention to the guru. Loving, Listening, Emulating, and if there is no guru yet, you love and listen to your own heart's desire and emulate your highest vision, as your abilities allow, of spiritual practice. It could be simple as a prayer or a call or complex as a puja...only the individual knows ... and of course, the guru. : ) Guru ki Jai ~ Linda P.S. Please understand these are simply my own thoughts, based on my own experience.
