Dear Jonathan ~ I wanted to answer this question again, in a more personal way. You got so many wonderful answers from members of the group. For me, becoming Hindu is a matter of attraction. Something attracts us to this path. What is it? It is different for each person. For me, I was looking to find an alternative to the sin/guilt/hell etc. of Catholicism. The first answer I received was a book, "The Wisdom of China and India," which had many excerpts from vedic texts. These immediately resonated within my being, showed me that in India the spiritual premis is that we are all born good. Yes there is a fall into maya, into the arms of Durga, who also provides the way out. The Catholic premis is we are born bad, fallen, full of sin and then must overcome it (this is the basic Christian premise too, so far as I have been able to tell, having been Episcopalian by baptism, Methodist by being taken to church by my father, and Catholic by my mother wanting to convert and taking all of us family along with her en masse). Then I was led to another book and my first guru Paramahansa Yogananda. Then I was led to learn Transcendental Meditation. Then I was led to see Amma, Karunamay, and Swami and Shree Maa ~ all by the law of attraction. We do get what we wish for. Jaya jaya all gurus and means of answering our attraction
