Question from Latha:

Each Sanskrit Shloka is followed by a single bar '|' or two '||'

What do they stand for and do they have names ?

 

Swamiji's response:

Half matra is the single bar, and full matra is the double bar. We

offer ahuti with the full matra.

 

Latha's footnote : "Ahuti" means "offering to the fire". So we would

say a "swaha" after a full matra or double bar.
