Thank you ~ Linda > Hi Linda, That's a good question! I wasn't aware of any mantra specifically in honor of Bhu Devi, so I searched around and found that the 108 names of "Ashta Lakshmi" lists Bhu Devi as a name there. Ashta just means eight, so this is 108 names in honor of Lakshmi in Her eight main forms. Since it's a Lakshmi mantra, one could chant "shrim" in the mantra, and the whole mantra would be: OM shriiM bhuu devyai namaH The pronunciation is something like "om shreem bhoo devyai namaha". This was all I could find for Bhu Devi. However, any Sanskrit prayers or mantras will ultimately give peace to Mother Earth, and any prayers made in our own language for Her sake will also give Her peace. I've heard of pouring milk into the ground while chanting any Devi mantras or the Mrutyunjaya Mantra as a way to give peace to the Earth. The milk should go into soil, I guess, if one were to do this. Milk is very sattvic, because it is white and comes from the cow, a very sattvic animal. When beings are harmed/killed, and blood is spilled into the Earth, it pollutes the Earth. Offering milk into the ground helps to pacify this negativity of spilled blood. Another nice practice is to mentally chant mantras or prayers while walking outside. One can imagine the positive energy passing through the soles of one's feet into the Earth, giving Her comfort. If possible, one could stand or walk barefoot on the bare earth, and chant mantras for world peace. This also creates a positive connection with the Earth. I was once reading about people's visionary experiences while taking LSD in a therapeutic setting. Lots of people described merging with different animals or people, but one woman described feeling as if she had merged with the consciousness of the entire Earth. She had never thought of the planet as a being before, but in her vision she experienced the planet as Mother Earth, feeling saddened by violence and war. She also experienced that when native peoples perform certain peace ceremonies or dances for the well-being of the Earth, this made Mother Earth happy. She was very surprised to experience that the particular rituals of aboriginal cultures would have this effect on the planet, but that was her experience. Interesting food for thought! Jai Maa!
