She is often thought of as the wife of lord Shiva

Dear Nirmalananda Saraswati ~ I thought that Parvati was the wife of

Shiva. I have a picture of the two of them together. I thought that

Shakti was the Energy of Creation, and I know that She is a Goddess

and has a relationship with Shiva. Is Parvati another form of Shakti?

Confused ~ Linda

Linda,

Yes, you could say that Parvati is a form of Shakti.

In other stories, Lord Shiva is married to the Divine

Mother under different names, like Uma or Sati. They

are all different forms of the Divine Mother. They are

the Shakti of Siva. Shakti means energy, but it's also

a term that's associated with the Divine Mother.

If we chant the 108 names of the Mother, whether it's

108 names of Kali or Lakshmi, etc. there will be all

the names of all the Goddesses in there somewhere. So

the thing is that they are ALL THE SAME GODDESS! And

the name Shakti will surely be in there somewhere

also. You might say that the name Shakti is a little

more general, like the name Devi. But it refers to the

Energy of God.

Hope that helps.

Jai Maa!

Jai Maa ata,

Yes, Shiva would be thought of as the Divine Father.

Swami Ji says that Shiva is the Conciousness of

Infinate Goodness!

Jai Shiva!!!
