Guest guest
Dear friends, I hope that I did not offend anyone with my "tales". Shree Maa and Swamiji have such a delightful sense of humor. I don't know if it will translate well for those who have not lived in the US and know our customs. All the humor carries with it deep lessons for our daily lives and spiritual paths. Jai Maa Jai Swamiji

Here is one from a group pilgrimage retreat in Japan. One of the devotees asked Zen Master Roshi Kobori "In what way is the Buddha connected to your teachings?". With a big smile Roshi Kobori answered "What is not connected to the Buddha?". Everyone enjoyed a hearty laugh. Guest guest
Dear Kanda, I was a student of Shunryu Suzuki’s from 1963-1971. Once he was traveling with a group of students and they stopped at a little diner on the highway. All the students looked at the menu nervously tryng to figure out how they could order a satisfying meal that didn’t break their rules of following a vegetarian diet. He told them all to go ahead and order. The diner didn’t have much to offer a vegetarian. When it came to his turn to order, he said (with his gorgeous smile) “I’ll take a cheeseburger with fries.” Then he laughed. Soon all the students were changing their orders to match his, what they had wanted all along. I love this reminiscence from Durga Nanda, an early disciple of Shree Maa and Swamiji, published in the book “Shree Maa, The Life of a Saint”. Mother always knew when I was hungry. All of my preconceptions (of the gurus’ lifestyle) were shattered on an exit off a Northern California highway. While driving home Mother wanted french fries. We pulled off an exit with one gas station, one store and one restaurant. Of course, we needed our french fries fried in vegetable oil free from garlic, onion and meat. What are the odds of this happening between Mount Shasta and Redding? I thought it was impossible. They sent me into the restaurant to ask all the questions. The folks thought I was nuts for asking such questions, but I got a positive reply to all of them. I ran to the car to give my report. Maa said “Buy five orders!” A french fry never tasted so good! (paraphrased) Yes, our gurus work in mysterious ways... and humor plays a big part in waking us up.
