Guest guest
Detoxification I arrived at the ashram one Saturday just as a devotee was starting to prepare lunch. I walked up to her and said hello. She scowled at me and said ³ I suppose you are going to want to eat lunch too.² I said that I did and offered to help. She said ³no, I know what I am going to fix.² I saw some cheese sitting on the counter and offered to slice it. She looked annoyed and said that she was going to do that. Then she said I could go down to the garden and pick two eggplants. I went down and got the eggplants and stopped at an outdoor sink to wash them. When I set them on the counter, she said ³I don¹t suppose you washed them.² I pointed out that they were still wet. She looked surprised. She sliced the eggplants and sauteed them with some mushrooms and green pepper. Then she decided to let me slice the cheese. Right about then Swamiji appeared and sat down on a stool. The devotee assembled sandwiches with the sauteed veggies and the cheese and then grilled them. It turned out that there were only five of us eating lunch. When I took a bite of the sandwich, I said ³wow, this is really delicious!² The devotee scowled at me, but Swamiji gave me a big grin. The devotee then brought out what she said was a special detoxification lunch for her husband. I looked at it and it just looked like a plate of steamed green vegetables. I told her ³it just looks like regular food². She said ³we are on a special purification diet to get rid of all our toxins. This looks like a regular meal, but next week it will be the same but there won¹t be any food.² Two of the devotees at the table started talking about articles they had read about certain foods that forced the toxins to exit your body right through the pores of your skin. Swamiji said ³my toxins seem to always come out of my mouth.² With this, I laughed so hard I almost fell off my chair and I have had many laughs over it since then, seeing the swami with his straight face saying that. The amazing thing is that everyone was so serious about the need to detoxify that they didn¹t even get the joke (or the lesson).
Guest guest
Isn't that usually the case...that is being so caught up in ourselves that we don't really see or hear what is going on around us...detoxing as far as I can see is what saddhana is all about but rather on the subtle and causal levels. Thanks for the laugh. Grace On 28/01/2005, at 8:01 AM, Ardis Jackson wrote: > > Detoxification > > I arrived at the ashram one Saturday just as a devotee was starting to > prepare lunch. Guest guest
Swamiji once told me "what comes out of your mouth is much more important than what goes into your mouth". I am glad you got a good laugh. I certainly did. on 1/27/05 2:43 PM, Grace Green at gmgreen108 wrote: > Isn't that usually the case...that is being so caught up in ourselves > that we don't really see or hear what is going on around us...detoxing > as far as I can see is what saddhana is all about but rather on the > subtle and causal levels. Guest guest
Isn’t it amazing how those toxins can just slip out sometimes? Sometimes I see them forming in my mind and I still can’t stop them! on 1/27/05 3:32 PM, kandaaran (AT) aol (DOT) com at kandaaran (AT) aol (DOT) com wrote: In a message dated 1/27/05 3:16:24 P.M.
