Guest guest
Sadhana reminds you who you are. The Guru's example and satsang help to define your goal. Being in the presence of God purifies the dross elements of the personality. > > brian > 2005/01/28 Fri PM 05:55:42 GMT > > Re: Sadhana and its impact on the personality - > Another question for the group > > Who you are never changes even if you perform sadhana. Guest guest
Dear Muktimaa, maybe for some it takes patience to sit but for me patience is not a long suit. In fact I have a very short fuse. For me it is will and desire that has me siting and performing sadhana. , and the more I do it the move love I feel and so I just want to do some more....but patience...that I am still waiting for. As a consequence I am not so sure about the personality changes that do or do not occur. and so I find Brians comments truthful though incomplete. Guest guest
Nanda, Hey, you know what? There is truth in jokes. Your experience IS leading to more questions, or, deeper questions. Here is my answer, based on some real specific experience: "It depends entirely on what sadhana you are doing." If you are doing self-inquiry, or abiding as THAT, etc., you might go through some very profound spiritual experiences, and at moments be very peaceful, but the personal hang-ups remain unchanged and will rise up again during stress. The personal issues need to be transformed DIRECTLY. The qualities you desire [peace, etc.] must be contemplated either in your self, or in Chandi, Thakur, etc. In other words, they must be directly perceived. In identity with Self, nothing is perceived, so nothing in terms of manifestation is cultivated. It is very important for spiritual life to be complete, to work on personal issues directly. This does not mean psychology, or secular approaches, but to deploy methods such as prayer, contemplation of divine qualities, etc. Even then, change is difficult, long, unending, and will be tested. , "Nanda" <chandimaakijai> wrote: > > > Dear All, > > OK , here is another thing that has been biting me for a long time. > > How does Sadhana impact the personality of the Sadhak ? > > Does it turn an impatient person more patient ? Very good questions .... very relevant because there is a large section of society that expects the same too. I have heard friends and relatives say "Oh, if you are a follower of such a great Guru who is reknowned for Her Compassion and Love, then how come you exhibit such negative qualities as a short temper and anger?" and then they go to declare or atleast implicitly infer, that if this is the result (me), then the catalyst (Guru) is not so great after all, or just a sham! To my mind, that inference brings the greatest sorrow because it is such a narrow view of anything! In all honesty and in my own experience, I think spiritual sadhana DOES NOT HAVE TO HAVE a direct impact on any external quality you may possess (like looks, money, smartness, intelligence, creativity as expressed in wordly activities, etc). It may have an impact (benefic or malefic) on these attributes, but the exact relation between the two is too complex for me to understand. But, spiritual sadhana MUST HAVE a direct impact on your spiritual progress. In either case - material visibility of spiritual sadhana or spiritual progress-, flow of Grace and the ABILITY TO TAP IT are the determining factors for an individual's life. Jai Ma! Guest guest
Sadhana (spiritual discipline or practices) softens negative personality tendencies and intensifies positive ones. Sadhana does not change personality. That would be like expecting sunshine to change a cactus into a rose. The light of sadhana makes the cactus a better cactus. BTW, does sadhak mean anyone who is a spiritual practitioner? Nanda <chandimaakijai > wrote: How does Sadhana impact the personality of the Sadhak?
