Guest guest
Dear All, Here is a request to our members to share their thoughts on Swami Vivekananda on the occassion of his janma tithi. Can you say in one word what comes to your mind when you remember Swami Vivekananda ? It will be great if you can also share why this word comes to your mind. Here is my word : BOLDNESS One of the stories that flash into my head , is Swami Vivekananda placing a bag of gold coins under Ramakrishna's bed - to see if Ramakrishna was really indifferent to money as he claimed. Of course the results proved so ... when Ramakrishna got up from the bed and claimed that his body was burning , and Vivekananda apologized and admitted to placing the coins under his mattress. But what I marvel at , Swami Vivekananda wouldnt accept anything until he could prove it for himself. And that requires boldness / daring and courage - traits that I appreciate highly. Jai Vivekananda ! Love Nanda
Guest guest
I like your word “boldness”. I don’t have just one word for him. When I think of the picture of him with his staff, I think of stalwart, strength, perseverence. When I think of the depth and breadth of his thought, I think of genius. When I think of his first trip to Chicago for the Council of Religions, the word is mission. Guest guest
Tithi means day, but what does janma mean? Swami Vivekananda was a disciple of Sri Ramakrishna (lived during the late 1800s), recognized as a compeer of Krishna, Buddha, and Christ. Shree Maa and Swamiji are followers of Ramakrishna, and it was Ramakrishna who "told" Maa to come to America. Maybe knowledgeable DMC members can help us newbies understand about these important figures. Guest guest
boldness, that says it. he wanted the truth, not to just accept what he was told. i would also say, an AWESOME god-motivational speaker/writer. , "Nanda" <chandimaakijai> wrote: > > > Dear All, > > Here is a request to our members to share their thoughts on Swami > Vivekananda on the occassion of his janma tithi. > > Can you say in one word what comes to your mind when you remember > Swami Vivekananda ? That proving it for himself has quided me on the path since the start. It is Japa and Raja Yoga as the personal practices in my own life, tested and tested for new depths of understanding and realization. Japa protects and Raja reveals. Swami Vivekananda's writing on Raja Yoga by translating and commenting on Patanjali's Yoga Aphorisms is a must from point of view. Guest guest
Dear Karen, "Janma" means "birth" , and Tithi is lunar day, ergo - Janma tithi is Birthday.
