Guest guest
beloved ardis! i really LOVE to hear your stories! Ardis Jackson wrote: When I started going to the Devi Mandir in March 1993, I knew next to nothing about Hinduism. I had heard of Rama and Krishna and Shiva... That was about it. Every Saturday evening Satsang, we started out singing Ramakrishna saranam. I don't know why, but I sang it very vigorously and loudly. I guess I thought that if Swamiji and Shree Maa and the family did so, it was good enough reason for me. One evening, Swamiji said "why do you sing so loud... We are asking to take refuge." One time I heard Shree Maa say "I liked it better when we sang quietly." But Ardis was determined to sing with all her voice. I thought that we were asking to take refuge in Ram and Krishna. I didn't even know that there was a saint named Ramakrishna. After about 2 years, Swamji said "you don't even know who Ramakrishna is". I agreed. Shree Maa immediately suggested that I read the Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna by M, as translated by Nikhilananda. Swamiji showed me some other books about Ramakrishna on the temple library shelves. I immediately went out and bought the Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna. I don't know what I would do without it. It is my companion. My source of Joy, Truth and Reality. It sits on the table by my couch, ready... Always ready. It serves as a source of inspiration and comfort. Now our beloved Gurus have created a new book about Sri Ramakrishna. I ordered it yesterday (along with Tattwa Jnana). What a joy it will be to have this new source written by true lovers of Ramakrishna.
