Guest guest
Dear Group, I following was sent to me by a close friend, his path is very much different from mine, we worship and practice very different faiths.... yet the paths are leading to the same place... the following reminds me of the veil of maya... lord is the same. Ohm Nama shiva.. shashi We can have a close, intimate relationship with God! To enjoy and be assured of God's presence in our lives, we need to spend time with Him daily, fellowshipping and growing closer in our understanding of Him. We can do things to help us experience His presence or we can do things to hinder that blessing. For example, if we walk in peace and in the love of God—both receiving His love for us and allowing it to flow to others—we experience His presence more. The Lord will teach anyone who truly desires to know Him how to know Him better. We should find out what draws us closer to God and do those things. We can veil or block our awareness of God's presence by following our own fleshly desires and plans without consulting Him and by striving to make ourselves acceptable to Him. Our striving should be in seeking God, seeking to know Him better, to hear His voice more clearly and to walk in obedience to His instructions. We can experience His presence or the pressures of the world, His presence or desires of the flesh, His presence or religious bondage due to legalism. Life beyond the veil is wonderful...enter in! Guest guest
Dear Shashi, Thank you so much for sharing this. I love the statement "The Lord will teach anyone who truly desires to know Him better. We should find out what draws us closer to God and do those things." So simple, but so true. Om Namah Shivaya. Guest guest
Dear Group, Namaste, my name is Robert. I learned of your group through a friend and until now have just read the postings without ever joining the group. But this post and the reference to fleshy desires really struck a cord with me and since you all seem so advanced I must ask you all a question. I hope it is appropriate. You see I have many fleshy desires. I love women, everything about them. The fleshy desires are second to none to me in terms of their power. I think it is because I have never been a woman in previous lives thus they are so intriging. I had someone tell me that in order to overcome my desires I should make my sexual life a puja or prayer. To visualize my wife as the Holy Mother and during our intimacy imagine taking in her love when I breathe in and sending it when I breathe out. All the while repeating the mantra Ram. By doing so I am bringing God into this act and making it spiritual. There are other aspects but I am reluctant to go into too much detail. But my question is this. Will this help me to overcome my carnal desires or would I be better off to do as my Catholic background would advise and dig a very deep hole, bury it and try to forget about it. Can you negate and one day eliminate a desire this way? Or not? Jai Swamiji and Jai Maa. Thank you for your time. Guest guest
Namaste Robert, Sexual desire, which is a power within the body, effects in a way that is self oriented. The trick is to flip it around so that the self is taken out of the picture. Actually the goal of all these sexual practices is ultimately to become free of all sexual desire, and become totally pure, without the desire. The power of it makes the mind self oriented. What I mean by flipping it around and taking one's self out of the picture is to be of the attitude "My desire is only to please my wife". That means not just sexually pleasing, but giving her a sense of happiness and fullfilment, and a sense of security, love, satisfaction with life, etc. In that way the self is taken out of the picture. This is true tapasya, because it is an act of great sacrifice - sacrificing the ego - self. It's not just a homily about being good, but rather a technique of intense tapasya (sacrifice). All the spiritual paths are concerned ultimately with reducing the ego and putting it into it's proper place. That place of surrender to the supreme IS the Holy Mother, whether she's called by Durga, Kali, or Blessed Mary. Sexual practices like the one you describe are designed to purify the sexual desires, so yes it can work, but a word of caution - Ramakrishna said that very few people could be successful in those practices because thay are so difficult. It is dangerous (in my humble opinion) to mistake the supreme Goddess with the woman you are intimate with. Just see the Divine Mother in your wife and do everything to make her life happy and safe. And, in intimacy, try to please HER, and take the self out of the picture. That's good tapasya! Jai Maa! --- rnmgold <rnmgold wrote: > > > Dear Group, > > Namaste, my name is Robert.
