Guest guest
Namaste Srini, Thank you for asking this question. I can honestly tell you that I struggle with this problem. When the spirit wants to chant but the flesh wants to settle on the couch and watch TV ... When the spirit wants to get up early but the flesh wants to snuggle under covers ... I have tried so many ways to persuade myself - all with various degrees of successes and failures but here is something that helped me - to remind me of the value of sadhana. I once stayed at the mandir (end of 2003) for about 10 days or so - and I had to get up early because i was sleeping in the mandir and Maa and Swamiji would come in for their morning worship. Also, aside from seva there are not very many distractions so I got the chance to chant the Chandi regularly and uninterruptedly for the 10 days. Before I had gone on this break , I was sagging from my office politics and couldnt even bear to look at some of my coworkers. After this time off, when I went back in to work - I was smiling at these very same people that I couldnt bear to look at , and one very astute manager commented how I was glowing and that I must have had a good vacation. And looking back , it wasnt a vacation, it wasnt just the break that did it - it was the attitude that i had unconciouslessly gleaned that "Chandi seldom changes situations, she changes the sadhak " So without doubt , WITHOUT DOUBT , I learned the VALUE of sadhana. It is not that laziness doesnt bother me anymore, but I keep remembering the high "after-sadhana" effects. That is encouragement for me to keep going ! And oh , sometimes the stick helps too - once , over 2 years ago, Maa had looked at me thunderingly when I lightly told her "I am not too much into sadhana". She said "dont even TALK to me then" and swept away regally. The I understood that if I had to know Maa, it would be only through sadhana and that is another reason for me to overcome laziness and other obstacles. Thanks for asking the question. Namaste Nanda Laziness is not something that effects me often, when it does, identification with pure energy removes even the thought of laziness. Another method that works for when it is difficult to get up in the morning is flooding the aura with bright red which will invigorate the physical body. If mental laziness is the problem, flood the aura with yellow by visualizing yellow light all around you. Om Namah Sivaya Kanda

Guest guest
Dear Nanda and Srini, I can not imagine anyone except Swamiji and Maa who do not have a component of laziness about us otherwise we would be doing Puja, Chanting, Seva etc as they do...24 hours a day. I suppose I keep asking myself a series of questions...i.e what is my goal? is that what I want? Challenging myself and then remembering to not judge myself when I "fail". Anyone who knows me would laugh at me describing myself as lazy but it strikes here also in the things that I do not want to do such as cleaning, or ironing, or going to work. But that also is Sadhana and must be infused with mantras as my meditation. This is the understanding that drives the practice... and hopefully one day every breath that I take. Guest guest
If I were faced with either laziness, allurerments or distraction, I would be inclined to recite the Shiva Sankalpa Stotram which is in Swami's chubby Shiva Book. Its invocation sould set just about any dedicated sadak back firmly to the task at hand. Further where there is inspiration, drive and a compelling reason for doing something, lassitude is likely to quickly flee, even as the shadows of the dark night evaporate before the dawning of the coming day. So look to the eastern horizon. Determin what you want to bring forth, then set the sankalpic wheel in motion. So I do surmise on this 114th of a 144 day long bore. At its completion on the second day of spring it will be capped with a 12 day short intensive in which all of the practice of the 144 day long bore get compressed into just 12 days. To acomplish such a feat it seems that I too will have occasion to resort to recitation of the Shiva Sankalpa Stotram.
