I am american with no indian descent. So when would one recieve Gayatri and sacred thread in this circumstance? Also I don't plan on ever getting married, so then what happens? Swamiji's response: Your guru will give the initiation at the appropriate time. Our criteria is a disciple's understanding of the meaning of the mantras, the ceremony and the thread, as well as the relationship between Guru and disciple.
