It is amazing what happens when you have no expectations. It is as though a

window is opened up for the extraordinary. Writers know this. Musicians

know this. But you don¹t have to be one who is recognized as creative or

spiritual or ³special² in any way. New mothers sometimes experience this

because the baby is constantly creating and recreating her own schedule.

Mothers who are submerged in the bliss of this new being sometimes let go of

all ideas of planning or scheduling. They totally surrender to the baby¹s

needs. They have no expectations.

The Hindu concept of ³no attachment² is akin to this. If you have no

attachment to the past and no attachment to the future, you can only live in

the present with no expectations. You are liberated while living. You are

fully alive in the moment. The opening is made for the Divine to act in

your life. In fact, you are the Divine and you realize your Oneness with

God/Goddess/All That Is.

Another concept that is related, in my view, to ³no expectations² is pure

heart. Some people know from their early childhood that it is their desire

to always have a pure heart. The Christian Bible states that the pure in

heart will see God. That was my hope, my prayer, my goal - to be pure

enough to see God.

Ramakrishna¹s wife Sarada Devi looked at the full moon and said ³O God,

there are dark spots even on the moon. But make my character spotless.²

If you are living in a state of ³no expectations² and are aware of your

oneness with the Divine, your heart will be in its original state of purity.

The only thing that can change your state of purity is by dipping it in the

dyes of worldliness, especially the dyes of attachment in the ocean of

objects and relationships. If you keep your eyes on Divinity and your heart

in pure love, you will become jivan mukta, liberated while living, and able

to live in the present moment with no expectations.
