Dear Nanda ~ "Sahib Sadhu," the book about Swami had an astonishing affect on me. I hungrily read page after page. I cannot quote from the book (partly because it has been some time since I read it, partly because it is in storage in Oregon, so I cannot reference it). But... what I remember most is the story of the village that was enduring a terrible drought. The begged Swami to pray for rain, and so he did. And it rained, and it rained, and it rained ... and then it flooded. All the villagers ran to higher ground. Later some realized Swami was nowhere to be found, so some ran back to search for him. They found him sitting at the top of a tree, still praying/chanting. To me this is such an inspirational image ~ I can just see Swami with all his enthusiasm, sitting up in that tree while the rain just keeps coming. So then the villagers said, we have enough rain, thank you very much, can you pray for it to stop now. And so he did. And so it did. Guest guest
Linda, I just got that book and have been reading it. I just read that particulary story, too. What an amazing person--how devoted to his spiritiual purpose and single-minded. The more I read , the more I think wow! I wonder if I will ever be that driven? As for books--I see myself as pursuing the spiritual life all my life but I would say that when I became conscious and deliberate about it was "Three Magic Words,The Magic of Believing" and "Out on a Limb" that were some of the first books that really got me going. But I read so much then I am sure I am overlooking something! nierika wrote: > > Dear Nanda ~ "Sahib Sadhu," the book about Swami had an astonishing > affect on me. I hungrily read page after page.
