hi dear nanda

i can join you and the others in this with happiness.

for others, re: the fear thing ... i have never been good at learning

languages, but i learned the shiva puja, to read it anyway. take it

slow. i am not sure why it is so satisfying but it is. if you take it

as a spiritual exercise ... and not as a job or a mental achievement

.... it is a connection to god and guru ... you might find it a

pleasure.

the other benefit is the people on this forum. the smallest question i

had, they answered.

think of it, not like learning french, but like doing a yoga of the

mind. it is a way for YOU to connect to GOD. it is not a way to keep

separate or get hung up in difficulties.

every words and meaning in sanskrit is related to the divine. the

meanings probably take a lifetime to reveal.

what's the rush?!?! sanskrit is a kind of puja in itself.

:-)

swamiji said sanskrit means to "share together" or something like

that.

Dear Nanda,

I would love to join in the Sankalpa but I do not own the Shiva Puja

book. I think I have a copy of the Shive Mahimna in an old chanting

book. Will this suffice?

What about the Siva Ratri Vrata?

Latha's response :- Thank you for your questions. To make it simple and for

many people to join, we will make our Shiva puja a bare minimum one

a) Chant "Om Namah Shivaya" 1008 times or 10 rounds of mala.

b) Offer a little milk to Shiva - either as a direct abishekam (bath) to the

deity , if you have a Shiva Lingam or atleast offered in a cup to your altar.

Anything else that you would like to do for Shiva depends on what you have at

hand. So if you would like to chant Shiva Mahima go for it. If you would like to

take portions from the Advanced Shiva as part of your puja , go for it. There is

NO particular section taken from the Adv Shiva Puja book that would constitute

the Beginner Shiva book, but we can take ANY section from it and make it part of

our own puja.

Regarding the Vrata or fasting we will leave it to each individual's capacity.

The group sankalpa is a barebones one , and every one is encouraged to add to it

as they feel meaningful to them.

I will recite the 3; 1. shiva puja which contains the 108 names of

shiva. 2. Durga 108. 3. Kali 108. I will also recite shiva

sahasranima of 1008. I might do the rudri too or at least parts of

it. This will be done at 34 north, 118 west.

Querida Kalachandra,

When I had surgery one time and was at home recuperating, I talked to

Swamiji on the phone. He told me that Shivaratri was a great time to

heal. He said "grab the tail of the Shiva energy and hold on tight." I

was sad that I couldn't be at the Mandir for Shivaratri but he made it

clear that Shiva was always with me.

I will be praying for you. I had gall bladder surgery a long time ago.

It went beautifully and the recuperation was quick.

May you be surrounded by our Gurus' light at all times.

Your friend,

Ardis

(thank you Ramya) as a good day to recite Kali's

108 names.

It would be great if we all made use of this

opportunity and had a

group sankalpa.

So here is the minimum sankalpa and each person

can expand it to

however long they want depending on their time and

circumstance.

On March 8th we will do

1) B eginner Shiva Puja - and if you are not sure

how to do puja,

well its a good time to learn.

2) Recite the 108 names of Durga from the Chandi

Path book

3) Recite the 108 names of Kali from the Kali Puja

book

Can you please let me know if you would like to

participate in this

sankalpa. There are no time slots like our

previous sankalpas but

everyone participating will chant it during the

auspicious time -

and if you send me your geographical location I

can find it out for

you.

Please , please do not let a "fear" of

chanting sanskrit inhibit you

from joining in for this sankalpa. If you dont know

how to do the

Beginner shiva Puja, read the book and ask

questions on the group .

We are here to learn. Please make use of this

opportunity.

I look forward to hearing how many of us would

like to participate

in the sankalpa.

is a big day for us for many reasons* Maha Shivaratri* It is New Moon

that falls on tuesday and is in the Satabhisha star. This is a VERY
