Guest guest
There is a Christian carol called "The Lord of the Dance," and many years ago I re-wrote the lyrics so they would refer to the OTHER Dancing Lord, Maha Shiva. In the mists of creation, with the world wrapped in night/ I first appeared as a Lingam made of Light/ They sought my beginnings in the Sky or the Earth/ But I am Eternal with no source or birth./ CHORUS: "Dance, dance, wherever you may be/ For I am the Lord of the Dance*," said he/ "I live in you, as you do live in me,/ And I lead you all in the Dance," said he./ *["shree Nataraj" can alternate for "Lord of the Dance"] Well, I danced for the Rishis, but they would not see,/ Sent tiger, dwarf, and serpents after me./ With snakes for my ornaments, and tiger-skin skirt/ I leapt on Lord Avidya and danced him to dirt./ repeat CHORUS... To distract me from tapas Kama-Deva did try,/ But I burned him up with my fiery Third Eye./ Then Parvati joined me in a deep Yogic trance, And my heart started beating to the Goddess' dance./ repeat CHORUS... There's no dance too enormous, there's no dance that's too small,/ Search in every place -- I'm dancing in them all!/ I dance to the pulsebeat bringing warmth to your face,/ And I spin with the planets as they dance through space!/ repeat Chorus... Om namah shivaya Om namah shivaya Om namah shivaya Om namah shivaya Om namah shivaya Om namah shivaya Om namah shivaya Jai Nataraj! Well, i just found the original words and music and it WAS originally a Christian Carol...actually a 'Shaker Hymn'. Evidentally the version i learned had different lyrics from the original, also! :<) but my very favorite one, and the one i will now use with great joy, is Kalipada's Glorious lyrics! Thank-you again, Kalipada, for giving me a new, improved version of an old favorite! Jai Maa! Jai Swamiji!
