Dear Maa and Swamiji,

Before I met you, Shivaratri was just another quaint custom. After I

met you, Shivaratri has become an important milestone in my life .

I remember the Shivaratri that I had with you in 2003 - you

sang "Jago Jago Jayadeka" and this hush fell on the entire

gathering. It was right after one of the more boisterous bhajans

where we had danced our legs off and proved a dramatic counterpoint.

Your pure voice rang out and made my heart tie knots within itself.

I was so moved . It was the first time I stayed awake the whole

night and wide awake all day next day. Another way of pushing

myself - and it seemed so effortless in your presence.

This is what has been happening all these years that I have known

you - this constant pushing - an inch at a time, a sadhana here ,a

seva there , a breakdown here (yes!!! and you know it) and a

breakthrough there .

It seems almost like a play ! It seems like I have grown without

even knowing.

Your grace, always there - a word, a smile, an email, a phone call,

a prasad , a frown, a chastisement, a gentle reproof, a laugh, a

shaking of head in disbelief .... all from you ... and through all

this I have grown and am growing ...

Thank you for your gentle influence in my life.

Thank you for bringing Shiva into my life ! May my mind be fixed in

firm determination like that of Shiva. This is my prayer for

Shivaratri.

Jai Shiva
