Guest guest
Dear All, Twas truly a great night ! I could have daaaaaaaanced all night and still have begged for more .... Dancing aside, here are a few fond memories ... of sharing the Shivaratri with so many people who have truly become a family to me .................. I volunteered to sit at the fire and do a few rounds of "Om Namah Shivaya Svaha" with one of the disciples . Swamiji , was near by and decided to sing the Shiva Chalisa with the "Om Namah Shivaya" samput. Now this is one my favorites and I was aching to join him but I also had to chant at the fire . And I looked at the disciple, and there passed an unspoken understanding ....and we came to a happy compromise. While Swamiji sang "Jai Girijapati dina dayala" we went "Om NAmah Shivaya Svaha Om NAmah Shivaya Svaha Om NAmah Shivaya Svaha " And then we joined together with him to sing "oooooooooom namah shivaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaya" and then back to our "Om NAmah Shivaya Svaha Om NAmah Shivaya Svaha Om NAmah Shivaya Svaha " Thus we passed many a happy mala ... singing and chanting at the the same time ... .......... Another disciple and I wended our way to Napeshwar to do one of the pujas . Unlike the warm and joyous atmosphere inside the temple, here it was cold and sober. People had lined up to pay their respects to Shiva but it was quiet. Too quiet ... or so both the disciple and I felt. So she started to ring the bell and I started to sing "Om Namah Shivaya" The crowd roused from their languor joined us in our singing... We moved on to singing "Shiva Shiva Shiva Shambho" . Both of us knew only the first few lines and we kept repeating that. The crowd didnt seem to mind as they sang along.. By then she and I had completed our offering to Napeshwar and decided to head back to the main temple. So we stopped singing but the crowd must have been so sleepy that they didnt notice and the last we looked they were still in line , looking a bit dazed singing the line "Shiva Shiva Shiva Shambho" over and over ....... Sneaked a peak at the group to see if anyone was up and any posts to approve. Saw good ol Stevie posting the offerings at the appropriate times. SO GLAD YOU WERE UP STEVIE !!!! ...... Maa called me the next day and said "Thank you for your dancing on Shivaratri " I said "Thank you for your singing Maa" JAI SHIVA ! How loving and fun it is at the same time when devotees gather in your name. Nanda
Guest guest
Jai Maa, Thankyou for posting your fond memories. Since I could not attend the puja there personally, these memories make me feel like I was also there. Thankyou.
