Guest guest
Dear All, I have heard a revered friend say this many years ago "Do not exploit or be exploited by people" This is especially true for people that want to progress in the spiritual path. Not exploiting - atleast is in our control (one would think) and we can be aware when we are trying to be manipulative. But not being exploited ... this is very tricky especially as we go about our business in this world. How does one handle situations where one is being exploited ? Does one turn the other cheek ? Does one confront the situation ? How do we bring harmony to a situation ? Anyone have any ideas ? I am sure all of us have been in both situations - with power to exploit and helpless enough to be exploited. I look forward to your well reasoned and intuitive ideas especially with a spiritual perspective. Love Nanda

I have pursued many of the questions, which you ask so gracefully, in my own life. I have my own unsteady (as in feeling 'there is more to this than I have perceived') answers to them. Here is my one such answer for this one, looking forward to others' answers too. I guess I have exploited and been expoited too, more of the latter than the former. The "being expoited" was more in the name of being compassionate, thoughtful, "big-hearted", detached to results etc. The rare exploitation of my juniors was more because I was being expoited by my seniors anyways, so the thought was why not ease the burden? . I hope many of you relate to the day-to-day pressure of such a situation. There is no silver bullet for this q, imho. From all the mistakes in life, what I have learnt is this: Balance is the key. Sometimes it makes sense to stand up and fight for it, sometimes it makes sense to turn the other cheek. When to do what is the stuff intuitive connectedness to the world is made up of. The principle is broad and documented in that one sentence above, the documentation of its application in all situations in life is not easy, and definitely not as straight-forward. The image that inspires me towards a balanced approach is that of Lord Krishna exhorting Arjuna to shed his temporary delusion and attachment to relatives, and do his "duty of the moment". There is too much information packed in that imagery to be written and explained. Jai Ma!
Guest guest
hi nanda. here is one answer. first we have to think about what we can or cannot do. we have to be somewhat strategic. a case of, God gave us this mind to use, iow, to exercise discrimination. and eyes to see what a situation is. so every case is completely unique. but i say, a spiritual person is BRAVE. she might be meek but it is never due to fear. so when the time comes, she says calmly what she requires. harmony is never to keep us down. sometimes harmony is disturbed temporarily for a greater peace, a better context to live and do spiritual work. as always this is an IDEAL! that one aspires to. steve , "Nanda" <chandimaakijai> wrote: > > > Dear All, > > I have heard a revered friend say this many years ago "Do not > exploit or be exploited by people" > > This is especially true for people that want to progress in the > spiritual path. > > Not exploiting - atleast is in our control (one would think) and we > can be aware when we are trying to be manipulative. > > But not being exploited ... this is very tricky especially as we go > about our business in this world. > > How does one handle situations where one is being exploited ?
