Dear Linda , Sometimes, like during Shivaratri, we do 10,000 or more "Om Namah Shivaya" . We have a little counter that keeps track upto 99999 and click it once for every mala that we complete. Sometimes when Swamiji takes a smaller sankalpa , like doing 1000 times a mantra, he puts a flower to mark the completion of each mala. Hope this helps JAi Maa Nanda

I have a clicker counter that I use sometimes to count mala rounds. This seems to work well. Jai Maa! --Aravind
Guest guest
One can use marbles or dried beans. Like if you want to do 1000 repetitions a day, take ten beans and then drop a bean into a small cup on your shrine table after every mala. (Also note that each mala counts 100. the extra eight are like insurance!) So, after all ten are in the cup, you've done 1000 repetitions. If the objective is to do 4000 or 5000 repetitions, just start over after the ten. One might need to have a second set of counting items, and drop one in another cup for every ten in the first cup. All this is to keep from losing count, which can be a drag after sitting for a few hours worth of mantra.Nanda <chandimaakijai > wrote: Linda wrote :How in the world does one keep track of counting 100,000 times a mantra?
