Dear Brian ~ you had a lot of good and true things to say about pain, things I have tried to tell myself over and over through the past 10 years as I have undergone a journey into Neuroendocrine Immune Disorder. What is my body telling me? That I was so traumatized as a child that now that I'm an adult, this illness has come like a thief in the night to steal my ability to work, to take my time away because I am too sick to do anything, and to test my faith. I am lucky because I believe that everything has a purpose, even beyond the obvious physical one of pain that you mentioned. So what do I do? I work at thinking positively about healing. I go to the doctor. I pray and say mantras. I work to stay connected to my source. I pray for others who are in pain from physical or emotional ailments. And to Sana I would say, in addition to the other recommendations that Brian made, you might want to get a copy of the book, "The Power of Intention," by Wayne Dyer. Read it first yourself, then give it to your friend. Put your friend's name on the Devi Mandir Prayer List so we can pray for him (we won't know which name is his, so you don't have to worry about that). Be there for your friend and let him know he can talk to you about his feelings. Sometimes just being able to talk to someone can be the greatest medicine. And finally, if you can get some vibhuti powder (I don't know if Shree Maa and Swami carry this at their store), give it to him and ask him to, now and then, put a little on his tongue. It has great healing properties. Once place you can get it is www.ammachi.org and click on the picture of the rudraksha beads to go to the site's store. I think vibhuti would probably be under puja items. My heartfelt best wishes to you and your friend ~ Linda
