Guest guest
Floating on the Ganges As I was coming out of the anesthesia, the surgeon asked me how I was doing. I said, “Oh, I’m fine, just fine. It’s just like floating on the Ganges.” Since I have never floated on the Ganges (with or without a boat), it seemed like a strange response. But I am a great believer in floating, especially in warm swimming pools. I love the feeling of letting go, of complete surrrender, of trusting the water to embrace me and hold me up out of harm’s way. Many of the world’s religions include teachings on surrender and putting your trust in Divinity. Some of them go so far as to say that it is only the Divine Mother or Father who acts. The one who sees him or herself as an individual does not act at all. The best we can do is to throw ourselves in love and devotion at the feet of Divinity and surrender our small selves. As we are living our lives in the world, we can rest in the arms of Divinity and float down the Ganges knowing that the embrace of the Divine will keep us out of harm’s way.
