Guest guest
Jai Maa! You are absolutely right that surrendering to Maa and thinking positive is the way to go. Our devotion to God will certainly carry us through any difficulties. With that said, the stars and planets do have a lot of significance in our lives, and they have all been created and set in their orbits by Divine Mother. The stars do not "decide" our future. When we are born, the configuration of the stars is a macrocosmic reflection of our basic karma. It is a very mysterious thing, how the stars can coincide with our karma in such a precise way. All the stars and planets have been created by Devi, and they all perform various functions of emitting certain energies and light frequencies. Those energies come into stronger or weaker play according to the movements of the planets. Each planet affects us according to the kind of karma we have. Saturn might affect one person heavily because they have not purified certain karma, but it might not affect another person at all, because they have done a lot of sadhana. The ancient rishis were given a lot of knowledge by Divine Mother because of all the meditation they did. Some of that knowledge has to do with working WITH the energy of the planets and stars, in order to get through our difficult times more easily. All of these techniques are enhanced by devotion. They always help, although with very pure devotion, they are not necessary. My feeling is, how do I know my devotion is enough? Why not make use of a particular technique if I can and it might help me? I have a friend who has known Shree Maa for many years. She does a LOT of sadhana, and she has a lot of faith and devotion. She has recently been undergoing a difficult Saturn period. In the midst of that, Maa called her and gave her a specific technique to use in her regular Siva puja, to alleviate the difficulties related to Saturn. I think it involved abhishekam with sesame oil. So we may have a lot of devotion and do a lot of sadhana, but we can still benefit from astrological techniques gifted to us by the ancient rishis. Whatever happens to us is related to our karma. The stars and planets simply bring out and help our karma to manifest on the physical plane according to a divinely laid out schedule. If we know that, according to our jyotish chart, a difficult time is coming, we can prepare for that by stepping up our sadhana or even beginning a special sadhana for making that difficult time easier. All the techniques are based on purifying our karma so that there is less of it to be "activated" by the stars/planets. That is the significance of the techniques. It's all about purification. Jyotish is not there to make us worry about the future or feel anxious. That knowledge was given to humanity so that we can take charge of our lives, benefit from powerful astrological techniques given by sadgurus or jyotish masters, and ultimately progress to the point where we don't need the techniques because we are completely purified. Guest guest
Hi Jay! Good subject. I like what President Roosevelt said about fear. "We have nothing to fear but fear itself." A classic line showing a clear understanding of the nature of fear. As for our future, I feel that what happens to us is clearly and completely out of our hands. It depends on our life plan, the drama's that Maa wants us to participate in and our karma. The only thing we may have conscious control of is our reactions to our fate. Ironically I was pondering this subject this morning in the shower and I got this analogy. If much of life is nothing but a series of reactions stretching into the past, then you can imagine that each reaction is a link in a chain which brings about each subsequent link. If our actions are the links of reactions stretching back even before we were born because of our ancestor's reactions, then what can break that chain and free us from bondage? One way is for a chain link to be weak or damaged enough for the chain to snap under its own weight. That means that the longer the chain the more likely it is to break. All it takes is a weak link. The weak link is made by our calls for the cycle to stop, by recognizing the chain, seeing it for what it is, admitting we can do very little about it except pray, and by desiring with all our might to stop the cycle of reaction. Over time the weight will build up on those weakened links and at any time the chain may break of its own accord. Or maybe we can become so acutely aware of the cycles of our own reactions that a link is made that is very flawed, and snaps of its own accord. However, if we have a really viscious social / genetic cycle which creates very strong and very difficult to see links in the chain, then we have only one recourse. We have to pray to Her for Her mercy and light. We have to ask Her to break the cycle of reaction and stop the mind from harming itself and those it loves. we have to desire the truth, accept the pain of that truth, and pray that She will take it all away. Then, with that right attitude (bhava) She will come in with Her sword of true devotion (a sword we give Her) and cut a link on the chain. It is very liberating, and at the same time very very scary and painful. Because the one advantage of the chain is: it tells us whats going to happen in the future. We know because we lay it out before ourselves, creating the necessary steps to create a whole new link. We often do it completely unconsciously and then decry it when it happens. Knowing what is going to happen is a comfortable place, even if what's going to happen is a horrible experience. When the chain is broken, it is broken forever. The burden of its weight is lifted and no matter how many times we try to build links, we can never replace the whole chain (many people lose their chain and go crazy trying to get it back, read "addicts"). That is a scary place to be for a mind. The mind likes its bondage, it likes the comfort of that chain. It wears that chain like a suit of chain mail and it feels protected behind it. In fact the chain protects the mind's identity. Once She hacks it away, there is no place for the mind (ego) to feel safe. Fear is one of the chain links. Astrology is simply the fact that the universe operates in cycles and the Rishi's have written down ways to convert star positions to indicate our position in the cycle. We really have no control over what's going to happen to us -- none what so ever. Any idea that we do have control is merely a lie we tell ourselves to keep our minds stable. Because a mind is designed for survival and needs to beleive that it will survive. Once that need is removed, the fear of death is removed and peace reigns. Our devotion helps to determine how we will react to events and Maa's mercy determines how intense the happenings are. Thanks for being so inspiring. > > My inbox gets flooded with online astrologers - guess most of our Devi > Mandir family members be receiving the same? Guest guest
my opinion: 100% correct. no need for astrology, unless it amuses you. the more we can funnel and channel all our soul, goals, plans, into devotion the better. that is what a spriritual person does as far as i know. if we want to know the future, we can ask god. maybe there is an answer for us, maybe not. i myself have a long way to go. the eternal way, that is either a very long road, or one with no concept of distance, depending on how our eyes and mind are working on any given day. i can do more, much more, spiritual work. but that might require me also to do things in the world less, and that could include activities like astrology. steve , "Jay Dayal" <dayals@c...> wrote: > > My inbox gets flooded with online astrologers - guess most of our Devi > Mandir family members be receiving the same? Guest guest
I am not an expert in astrology, but I have learned that predictive astrology is only one aspect. Jyotish or Vedic astrology is also used to help a person determine their various qualities, strengths and weaknesses and then to respond in an appropriate manner. Sri Ramakrishna said that the Divine Mother knows the tastes and digestive capacities of each of her children and so offers them food accordingly. For me, I want to know how to maximize my strengths and build up those areas in which I am weak. Not everyone finds this through Jyostish, but many have over the millenia. I try to keep an open mind on these things.
