Dear Grace and everyone,

We face the exact same problem with Shivaratri and unless we all

have panchangs local to our areas we will face the problem again :-

So for those that have panchangs please follow the schedule - start

on the 2nd day of Navaratri and end on the 8th day.

For those that DONT, please adjust your times according to Pacific

Daylight Savings Time schedule.

 

So yes Grace, then you would start on the 11th and end on the 17th.

Dear Nanda,

I was just looking at the local panchang for Sydney and it says nothing

about Navaratri...so what exactly am I looking for in terms of

astrological bits for Navaratri to begin?

No worries, I am here to help.

 

If you are looking at the local panchang for Sydney ( which I

believe is a better way to go - so kudos to you), you would look for

the Solar date for when the second tithi , ie Dvitiyam of the Lunar

month Chaitra falls, and start your group sankalpa for that date.

 

Now , here is the thing - since the calendar that you are looking at

may follow a different Indian language , the name may not coincide

with "Chaitra". So in such a case, you would pick the name of the

lunar month which starts approximately on the 9th/10 of April (coinciding with

"Chaitra") and look for the Dvitiyam tithau for the waxing fortnight and start

then. It should be either of the 10th or 11th for you.

Dear Nanda,

Thank you . Yes that does help. According to this Panchang for Sydney

the Dvitiyam Tithau , starts sometime on Sunday Apr. 10 and goes until

5.28 am Mon Arp. 11.

Consequently, I can start the group sankalpa on Sunday the 10th but to

be on the safe side I should do iit in the afternoon to insure that

Dvitiyam has started.
