Guest guest
The first day of the Parayana has dawned. What are we doing today? We have to tap the power of the Mantra and secure the grace of MAA. Chandi Kavacham – The Armour – Here we are asking MAA to protect our family and us. Arghala stotram – The praise that unfastens the bolt. - We are unfastening the bolt on the door locking the power. Kilakam – The praise, which removes the pin. - We remove the pin on the door so that it is always open. (Wild guess) On the way we also seek the forgiveness and blessing of the Rishis (Seers) connected with the mantra. Now that the preliminaries are over we start. Ratri suktam – praise to the night of Duality. (Vedic and Tantric). These are two versions. Swamiji has advised us to chant both. The Tantric version is from Chapter 1 of the Chandi, which we would be reciting again when we recite Chapter1. Sri Devyaadhravashirsham –The Highest meaning of the Goddess Navarna mantra Chapter 1: Describes the slaying of the demons Madhu and Kaitab. This is called Pradhama charithra (first part/history?). The entire text is divided into Three Charithras. First, middle, and last. The deity is Maha Kaali. She is also called Maha Maya and Vishnu Maya. Back to Devi Mahtmyam in general: Now MAA CHANDI is the combination of the powers of all the Gods. The story of MAA's evolution is given in Chapter 2. You can here see an artist's impression of MAA with all the gods in her body. http://hindusaktha.freeservers.com/samashtimaa.html or the Mirror site http://hindusaktha.jagaddhatri.com/samashtimaa.html MAA's army consists of different goddesses. It is an all women army. The three main Deities are Maha Kali, Maha Lakshmi and Maha Saraswathi. Maha Kali has ten arms, Maha Lakshmi eighteen and Maha Saraswathi eight. You can see the deities at the Devi Mandir Altar and also read about them. (Carrying coals to Newcastle) http://www.shreemaa.org/altar.htm The images of the Deities in the Hindu pantheon are sculpted according to the Dhyana slokas. The Dhyana Sloka of Maha Kaali is in the beginning of the first chapter. A question may arise in your mind. At least it did in mine. Where is the deity MAA CHANDI ? The Dhyana slokas of Maa CHANDI describe only her qualities. None of them describe her Murti. But an answer is found in the Vaikrita Rahasyam (The modified secret). It is said that Maha Lakshmi includes in her Maha Kaali and Maha Saraswathi. May be that is why she has eighteen arms (10 of Maha Kaali and 8 of Maha Saraswathi). So some people (like our Sampradaya) believe that Maa Ashtadasa Bhuja Mahalakshmi Durga is MAA Chandi. I have uploaded three photographs of Maa Ashtadasa Bhuja Mahalakshmi Durga to the photo section. My Guruji had consecrated two Murtis, one in stone and one Panchloga (Five metals). The third photograph is that of Sapthashringi MAA. This temple is on Sapthashringi Mountains near Nashik. We a have a metal image of Sapthashringi MAA in our Puja. Jai MAA KAALI !!!
Guest guest
Dear All, Today's picture on the group site ( ) is of MahaKali from the Mandir's Cosmic Altar. She is the Goddess described in the Pradhanikam Rahasyam or "The Most Preeminent Secret" of the Chandi Path. This picture is a few months old taken last autumn. This Navaratri, Kali Maa is dressed in YELLOW - like all the deities. Shree Maa changes and color coordinates the outfits and jewellery of all the deities every Navaratri , and all the deities wear yellow clothes during spring and summer. Come Autumn, they wear different colors - Kali getting a blue one for example. If you notice closely, you will find a photo of Swamiji's head held in one of Kali's hands. This is to symbolize the defeat of Chanda and Munda in Chapter 7 of the Chandi Path, where Kali Ma kills Passion and Anger, and gives their heads to Chandi Maa. This is why Kali is known as Chamunda - She who defeats Chanda and Munda. If you notice even more closely ( <grin> the picture is not THAT clear), you will find Kali Maa has a garland made up of photos of her devotees. I suppose all us of that wanted to get rid of our passion and anger gave a picture each and added it to Maa's garland. (Mine is there too) Jai Ma Kali !
