Guest guest
Today is the day of Narayani Sthudhi. The 11th chapter is considered to be very effective in warding off evils. This is recited independently without any restrictions. In Kerala we have a Puja called Bagavathi Sevai. We light a big lamp, do avahanam of MAA and do Lalitha Sahasranamam Japa. Done in the night. A qualified priest does it. The naivedhyam is Gooda annam (rice with jaggery), which is supposed to be a favorite of MAA. One of namas in Durga Sahasranamam is Gudaanna Ptiyayai namah. At the end of this Puja the 11th chapter is recited. All those present are expected to do Sashtanga Namshkar when the Narayani Sthudhi is recited for each namosthude. Sashtanga namashkar is full prostration and it is difficult to do so many times. But when the entire family or assemblage does it it is a sight to watch. We call it Namaskara Japa. I heard Devi Mahatmyam for the first time in one of the Bagavathi Sevais. The Dhyanam of this chapter is that of Maa Bhuvaneswari. My favorite couplets in this chapter are Damstra karalavadane siro mala vibushane Chamunde munda madane Narayani Namostu –te Jwalakaralmadhyugram asesasura sudanam Trisulam patu no bhiter Bhadrakali Namostu –te Of course other than the perennial favorite of Sarva Manga Mangalye Jai MAA!!! I had some proble with this posting. My broadband connection failed. I had to set up a Dial up connection to post. I start all things with Vaktadhunta Mahakaya ----.
