Guest guest
Breathing I have always been a very shallow breather; supposedly because I was born two months prematurely and my lungs were not fully developed. Frankly, I think it is just because I don’t pay much attention to breathing. Most of the time I can only handle a very simple form of pranayam with a fairly short mantra. One time at the temple I had a fabulous experience with Swamiji when he was chanting the Chandi Path at the fire. There was this totally effortless synchronicity of our breathing with each other and with the text. Even though I did not know the text or even have a copy, I just knew when to inhale, how long to retain the breath, how long to exhale the breath with Swamiji’s chanting of the sloka (verse) and then to take a very quick but strong inbreath to enable the next retention. It was a pretty amazing experience. I would have liked to have had more opportunity to chant and do pranayam with him. He is a Master at it.
