(You dont want to keep perishable foodstuff lying around too long ) If you offered a piece of bread, then you could break it into portions and give your family. But if you made soup or something liquid, then you could put the offered portion back into the main soup dish , stir it up so that everyone gets larger portion of the offering. Just a thought... Oh whether you are eating at a restaurant or at home ... before eating, you would say this mantra "Om Brahmarpanam Brahma Havih Brahmagnau Brahmana hutam Brahmaiva Tena Gandhavyam Brahma Karma Samadhinah" (It is the equivalent of saying grace).
