Steve's sample question: "what do I think about during the day" is a good one, because it allows you to check if you are deepening the cup or filling it up, not with the intrinsic nature of all that is knowable, but with appearances and thoughts about circumstances etc. So it might be a good idea to ask yourself very often: "what am I thinking about right now?". Just asking the question creates some space. Dear henny ~ your intuitive understanding of this gave me a big wow! You are so right, for the mind to be filled, first it must be emptied, like that zen tea cup. This is something very much worth pondering ... and doing.
