Dear Family,

Here is today's verse :

"Only those who perform selfless expressions of love for the Guru have

understood the wisdom of the Vedas and Puranas. They have attained to

sannyas (the establishment of truth within). Others are merely making

a pretence (of renunciation)."

Comments: This verse reminds me of all Maa and Swamiji's children

refered to in verse 52 as the circle which surrounds the Guru. All

disciples who are reflecting the greatness of the Guru, and who

through love and devotion, are williing to serve them through puja,

sankalpa offering, satsanga, translation or what ever opportunity may

arise.

What are your thoughts dear ones?

Dear Kalia,

thank you for posting the verse and for your referral to verse 52. My

thoughts? It is this wonderful circle of disciples surrounding the

Guru which has given me encouragement, love, and assistence when I

hesitatingly set out on this path. You all truly reflect the greatness

of the Guru and I thank you for it. By the fruit shall you know the

tree, they say, and surely it is a most glorious Tree of Life that

made you grow.

may all pretence flee before me,

with love,

Henny

Lieve Henny,

Dont forget - you have added value to our satsang as well. And I

think that for everyone in this group there is no "me" and "everyone

else". I truly believe there is only just "us" - a gathering of

devotees trying to learn what Maa and Swamiji teach us. And we try to

help each other out as we go along .

Dear Kalia,

Thank you for posting that verse and your comments.

Swamiji once said this and I paraphrase - "The people who do seva

here - whether it is to drive a nail, or wash the dishes, paint a

room, clean the floor, etc will all get the benefit of the sadhana

that is being done by the others"

I believe Seva is very important whether it is for people that are

already devotees or disciples of a Guru, or whether they are people

stumbling looking for a path or a Guru.

For me this line drives home one of the lines Swamiji has mentioned

in the Kasyapa Sutra

"How can I even figure out WHAT I want to do until I have that

inspiration, that example , that vision ? "

So until we even know what we want, we can do selfless actions. And

when we DO know what we want, we can perform the Seva to the Guru.

But Seva - selfless actions - is the key, the great purifier, that

lightens our heart .

In the process of lifting the burden for others, we discover we

lighten our loads.

Your are not separte from that circle, we, this satsanga group - are

all part of that circle. That circle which seeks to walk the path of

truth and light. You say " By the fruit shall you know the tree" Kali

says by "Henny's responses and posts we recognize her to be a fruit

from Guru's Tree". Pranams.

Thanks dear sister and do continue to inspire us with your post.

Thanks for your response. Here is a paragraph from the Introduction to

the Guru Gita dealing with seva-

"Throughout the scripture we find an admonition to perform seva to the

Guru, selfless service as an expression of love. Seva is different

from work in that the performer feels privileged to demonstrate the

intensity of love by performing an action, while a worker maintains

some expectation to receive in return. There are three forms of

seva. The lowest form is when our respected persons asks us "would

you do this for me?" The middle form is when we divide areas on

responsibility and we discharge our duties with an attitude of love.

The highest seva is when we see an opportunity to demonstrate our

love, and without being told or asked, we go out of our way to add

value to another's life".

Pranams to the Respected Guru.
