namaste,

a few days ago i did my first fire puja.

i then wanted to put out the fire, also since i didnt want to leave a

fire unattended.

however, i had put the diety in the fire and had worshipped the diety

in it, so it didnt feel right to just put out the fire without

removing the diety.

so i just mentally visualized the diety leaving the fire so i could

put it out in a respectful manner.

but really, what is the prescribed way to do this?

om namah shivaya

Namaste Kalidas,

Can you please explain what you mean by putting the deity in the

fire ? Did you visualize or actually put an idol in the fire ?I am

curious to know.

In the Chandi, the Goddess emerges as a pillar of fire (Chapter

2) , so the fire IS the deity.

The way I have seen it put out at the Mandir - the sequence is to do

an offering and then mantras for completion called Purnahuti, and

then pour milk over the fire. If you dont have sufficient milk, you

can pour whatever you have and then follow up with water.

Hope this helps. Please let me know of further questions

hello,

i was simply referring to prana pratishta, to put the diety in the

fire before worshipping it, culminating later on in the text with

the final line which calls the fire by the name of the specific diety

"agne twam deity's name namasi"

of course, i then visualize the diety there.

at any rate, thanks for the details on how its done at the mandir. i

will try to find the purnahuti mantras.(unless i already have them

without knowing thats what they are) also, pouring milk or some

other nourishing offering substance seems really right, as an act of

closure that also puts the fire out.
