Question from Kalidas:

a few days ago i did my first fire puja. I then wanted to put out the

fire, also since i didnt want to leave a fire unattended. however, i

had put the diety in the fire and had worshipped the diety in it, so

it didnt feel right to just put out the fire without removing the

diety. so i just mentally visualized the diety leaving the fire so i

could put it out in a respectful manner. but really, what is the

prescribed way to do this?

Swamiji's response:

Perform one mala of Shiva's mantra, then purnahuti mantras, then

Visarjana mantras, with Visarjana mudra in order to remove life from

the fire. Then you can put out the fire.

A small suggestion from our experience in conducting homas at home.

Please ensure that the materials you consign to the fire are consumed

completely. We used to put saree, full cocoanut, fruits, flowers, and

all forms of cooked food. These take a long time to be completely

consumed even after the Purna Ahuthi is over.

Jai MAA !!!
