Guest guest
Jai Maa! I was looking at Devnath's blog recently (http://devnath.typepad.com/devnath/). On it there is the picture of Ramakrishna standing in samadhi at a gathering. The caption for the picture is "Kalpaturu Mudra). I assume this refers to the mudra Thakur is making with His left hand. But it got me thinking about the mudra he is making with His right hand: middle fingers held down by the thumb, with index and pinky finger extended. This is very similar to the mudra he is making, also with His right hand, in the "pillar" studio portrait. So my question is what is this mudra? Does it have a name? What does it connote. Any information, as always, would be deeply appreciated. Jai Maa! Aravind

Guest guest
Namaste Aravind, I believe the mudra ( that Ramakrishna made with the right hand in the pose you refer below) is the Kalpataru mudra. I have also seen it referred at the mriga mudra or the deer mudra (if you see the shadow of the right hand in this pose you will know what i mean) However I will pass on this question to Swamiji for his confirmation. Sorry for the delay, but somehow your emails got buried under others. Guest guest
Nandaji, now you mention the term mrga mudra: isn't that the same mudra that is described in the Shiva dhyanam? Is it characteristic for the Consciousness of Infinite Goodness? Could it be an expression of the state of consciousness Shree Ramakrishna was in at the time? Sure makes me wonder...is it also the mudra to be seen in the picture of Shree Maa in the white sari? with love, Henny , "Nanda" <chandimaakijai> wrote: > Namaste Aravind, > I believe the mudra ( that Ramakrishna made with the right hand in > the pose you refer below) is the Kalpataru mudra. Guest guest
It is the mudra for tossing masala grains into the homa fire. It obviously has other uses to which it can be put to, such as casting deer shadows as Nanda pointed out. , "Nanda" <chandimaakijai> wrote: > Namaste Aravind, > I believe the mudra ( that Ramakrishna made with the right hand in > the pose you refer below) is the Kalpataru mudra.
