Guest guest
Dear All, I thought I would share something regarding the handling of books - especially those books that we use to chant / do puja/ homa etc. The book is given a lot of importance - it is considered as an embodiment of Goddess Saraswati and as such an object imbued with divinity. Once at the Mandir during homa, I had placed the book (that I was chanting from ) on the floor . Maa , who was watching, told me not to do so. Since then, I have tried as much as I can to place atleast a cloth on the floor, before I place the book. Of course , if you used a book holder then you wouldnt have this problem . But I am one of those that prefer to have a book on my lap or on the floor in front of me, so the cloth serves as a good way to protect the book instead of placing directly on the floor. Another common mistake is that sometimes people step on the books or touch them accidentally with their feet. This is again a big No-No. The book is an object of reverence so it should be treated as such ... Hope everyone remembers the mantra in the Chandi that is chanted when we offer a flower to the book ... it is "Ete Gandhepushpe Om Hrim Pustakaya Namah" JAI MAA Nanda
