But that is only because our mortal eyes cannot take in the intensity of Her Light of Wisdom. In addition to Her faces representing the Mahavidyas they also signify that the Goddess sees in all the directions as explained in the the extract below from the Mandir's altar explanation on Maha Kali : "Her ten faces see in the ten directions: the eight cardinal points of the compass, plus above and below. They indicate the ten Mahaa Vidyaas, the ten great forms of knowledge, personified as Goddesses: Kaalii, Bagala, Chinnamastaa, Bhuvaneshwarii, Maatanginii, Shorosi, Dhumaavati, Tripurasundarii, Taaraa, and Bhairavii."
