Guest guest
It completely takes away all great afflictions, and gives rise to the attainment of blessings. Even the ability to hold still one's senses or control one's mind is possible for one who always recite. Comments: Through constant repetition of this text, attachments fall away. The mind becomes still, the mind becomes fixed on the goal. It is said that through constant repetition of this text, one attains the four values of life dharma; artha; kama and moshka. Guest guest
Kalia, This verse always takes me by surprise. Part of me always says, "Oh, yeah! No afflictions. Give me those blessings (money, comforts, name & fame, etc. [of course, I already have good health]), and then I get to the second half of the verse, and the spiritual aspirant part of me reads and says, "Yes, of course. The highest grace is to still the senses and control the mind, "yogash chitta vritti nirodha", for Union is the cessation of the waves of the mindstuff, and in union lies freedom. Jai Maa! Guest guest
Dear Kalia and all, the verse reminds me of 'seek first the Kingdom of God and all other things will be added unto you'. How to seek the Kingdom? By going within, stilling the senses and controlling the mind. The verses tell us that this can be done by always reciting the GG and meditating on its meaning. Thus, by directing our attention to the Guru, we 'unwind'; instead of being very narrow-minded and identifying with what we perceive as "our concerns' or 'our troubles', we become more 'open-minded' (which makes me think of Nanda's wonderful story about the salt and the lake: we may have been the size of a thimble when we started the recitation, but gradually it widens) and what may have been a whirlpool of thoughts and emotions becomes calmer and clearer; automatically 'our concerns' and 'our troubles' disappear and we perceive the blessings that are always there. But what is meant with 'always recite'? To recite continually the Guru Gita? To make this one's only practice? Or always have (part of) our minds on the Guru no matter what we are engaged in? with love, Henny , "Chris Kirner" <chriskirner1956@y. ...> wrote: > Kalia, > > This verse always takes me by surprise.
