Guest guest
I just started reading the Chandi Pathah and encounter on page 55 the folling sloka: "And whoever recites the Chandi Pathah without knowledge or proper understanding, his soul will go to the darkness of hell. Of this there is no doubt." What is this? How can I have proper knowledge or understanding starting to read this scripture? And I have no access to a guru. Why such threats? This really puts me off, sounds like all the threats of hell I have read and heard in christianity. I would be grateful for any reasonable explanation. Best wishes D (new member)
Guest guest
Namaste Dharmavidya, Welcome to this group. It is in the very same Chandi Pathah , page 288, the GODDESS herself says "I will accept with love all acts of worship, offerings and fire sacrifices, whether performed with understanding or without it". Re the line that you are referring to - it comes in the "The Removal of the Curses by Brahma and others". What are those curses - Since the Chandi is a very powerful tool for self transformation and also for achieving one's personal desires , there was a catch or curse tied to it. The curse is this - if anyone uses the Chandi for achieving any desires other than the PUREST desire for devotion to the Goddess, he/she will not be able to use this tool for self transformation. IMHO, this "threat" is applicable only to those folks that do the sadhana without the purest intentions. Also if you read the introduction , Swamiji clearly says "Do not worry about not understanding. Do not worry about pronouncing the sanskrt perfectly when you first begin your practice. Do not worry about anything. If you study this and other translations or commentaries and devotedly recite, Chandi will become known to you" Hope this helped answer your questions. Hope you chant this text and fall in love with Her ! Chanting this text is a wonderful sadhana. Guest guest
just be with mantra on the in-breath, and the verses of the mantras on the out-breath as prescribed no intention or scheming or hoping for ANY particular results -- just pray for Pure Devotion and She will take care of the rest and show you everything that You are, including the experience and meaning of Pure Devotion be with the mantras, don't entertain any thoughts or strategies about it all -- that's just the Ego being tricky just do it in a simple and disciplined way, with the wonder and innocence of a child and keep going forward She will zoom forth from within and reveal that it is She who is doing it all and that You are She She doesn't come at the behest of Commander Ego,except to cut off his head! > The curse is this - if anyone uses the Chandi for achieving any > desires other than the PUREST desire for devotion to the Goddess, > he/she will not be able to use this tool for self transformation. Guest guest
D, I know what you mean. I felt the same way (still do a bit). The world has enough fear to go around; it doesn't need help from the spiritual realms. I see there are already a couple of enformed responses to your question (though I haven't read them yet), but let me throw in my two cents, as well. I don't really think it was intended so much as a threat, but as a warning. Though it does sound very threatening. Swamiji and Shree Maa are both masters of this path. Maa has said that everything she has came from the Chandi. So, I think their words can be trusted. They say that this is intended for those who would use the Chandi as a tool to acheive selfish ends. It is a tool for spiritual development (a powerful one), and will only do harm to those who approach it with impure intentions. There were times in India when sorcery was widely practiced. Spirituality took a backseat to the accumulation of siddhis for selfish purposes. As a manifestation of Chandi, herself, this scripture should not be used for such purposes, and those who would do so are warned. It is only fair. Besides, such people are filled with many fears, and such a warning insures that only the most arrogant, or the most faithful, will continue. Now that you're here, don't be a stranger. Jai Maa! Guest guest
I fully agree with comments of other respcted members as most of them, although students, they are no less masters. I recite Chandi often in times of hardship, getting some stuck work through, for assisting others, helping the community do Chandi Homa etc. Although I could have used the Chandi Pathah for my own selfish needs I never had that thought in my mind. The minute I sit infront of the puja altar all impure thoughts vanishes. If reciting Chandi Pathah was going to lead people to hell then it definitely would be a dangerous tool but until today it has worked wonders for me as my intentions were pure. It gave me more than I ever required. I never knews chanting the Chandi would bear immediate results. I have no Guru initiation into Chandi but since the books are blessed by both Shree Maa and Swamiji I dont think I need any further initiation as this seems complete. If you have Chandi with you, you have everything. I know of true stories how some people have become extremely successful in life both materially and spiritually just by surrendering to Maa Chandi. So what are we waiting for. For me if signing praises to my Maa Chandi leads me to hell then I am prepared for that as well because that hell wouldnt seems to be a hell at all but more than a heaven. In front of the respected members I am still very small and a starter, if any comments of mine isnt appropriate please kindly forgive me. Jai Maa Chandi Jai Ambe Jai Durge Jay Dayal.
