Guest guest
OM NAMAH SIVAYA to go along with Brian comments, Buddha said: " 'Nothing is', is one extreme; 'everything is', is another extreme. God is in the middle. Truth is in the middle." "The middle path is the best path, which is the path of austerity with understanding. This is the characteristic of the middle path. When understanding is without austerity, it is useless. When there is austerity without understanding, that is also useless. There must be austerity with understanding and understanding with austerity, knowledge with self-control and self-control with knowledge, that is wisdom. Knowledge with self-control is called wisdom, whereas knowledge without self-control is mere dry intellectuality. That is of no use. And austerity without understanding is a kind of foolishness. It will have no proper result." -Swami Sivananda JAI MA , "Brian McKee" <brian@s...> wrote: > Its called the Tao as well as the Bindu in the middle of the yantra. > > It means perfect balance in attitude and conditioning. > > > > what does he mean by the golden mean? > > > > ecjensen_us <ecjensen_us> wrote:OM NAMAH SIVAYA > > > > "In all things only the man who holds the golden mean can become a > > yogi." > > > > -Swami Vivekananda, Vedanta Voice of Freedom > > > > JAI MA > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Links > > > > > > / > > > > > > > > > > Terms of Service. > > > > > >

Guest guest
Michael, I think it likely Swami Vivekananda was referring to the following verses from the Bhagavad Gita: Chap.6, 16. There is no yoga for one who eats much or who eats nothing at all or for one who is inclined to excessive sleep or one who awakes altogether, O Arjuna. 17. He whose food and enjoyment are balanced, whose movements in actions are balanced, whose sleeping and waking are balanced, his yoga becomes the eliminator of sorrows. Jai Maa! Guest guest
Naren, It is true that God is all of this. You, too, are God, as am I. But what is your experience? Are you free of bondage to every desire, constantly walking in bliss, at home in every circumstance life brings? Probably not, and neither am I. The difficulty lies in the operation of the universe. The interactions of the three gunas underlie all of creation. Sattwa guna, representing pure consciousness, most closely approaches the reality of Divinity. The other two gunas, rajas and tamas, tend, because of their preponderance in this world, to lead us away from sattwa by involving us in the charms and activities of this manifest reality. A balanced life is sattwic, while extremes are either rajasic or tamasic in character. To realize God we must remove the confusion created by tamas and control the endless meaningless activities rajas lures us into, by purifying the mind and heart with sadhana, increasing sattwa.
