Here are the responses to your questions...

How do i proceed now? Swamiji said there are three portions before and

three after the main chapters. So do I go on with chapter one

tothirteen now or with vedoktam ratri suktam till I get to chapter

oneand so on? Sounds somewhat technical to me, but since I have no

clue I thought I better ask.

Nanda says :

Try the smallest Chandi first. Called the "Seedha Path" or the Straight Path. This comprises of

1)Kushandika - the beginning or prefatory verses that start with

'Sriman Mahaganathipathaye Namah" and end with "Om shanti shanti

Shantihi"

b)Vedoktam Ratri Suktam (Praise to the Goddess of duality)

c)Navarna Vidhi (The system of worship of the 9 lettered mantra)

d)Chapters 1 to 13

e)Once again - Navarna Vidhi (The system of worship of the 9 lettered mantra)

f)Vedoktam Devi Suktam (Praise to the Goddess of Unity)

g)Siddha Kunjika Stotram (The song that gives the key to perfection

h)Pranamah(Bowing down in devotion).

After having studied and recited more portions of theChandi Path and

ultimately the whole scripture - when reciting, isthere a recomended

way of splitting up the text if one can't ordoesn't feel like

chanting the whole text?

Nanda says:

Well, if you dont want to chant the entire text, you can do the Seedha

Path or and even shorter version which just involves chanting the

middle episode (chapters 2,3 and 4). In such a case , you would do

the steps as mentioned above and replace d)chapters 1 to 13 with

chapters 2,3,and 4.

There are other traditions that chant a few chapters a day, but this

is not part of Swamiji's tradition.

You said:

Where can I find a picture of yantra of the goddess?

Nanda says:

The yantra at the back of the Advanced Shiva Puja book is called the Shree Chandi Yantra.

You said:

How best to meditate on her.

Nanda says:

Each chapter gives the meditation. So each chapter you would

visualize Her as described in the dhyanam.

You said:

Sorry to bother you with all this beginner's stuff - hope you don'tmind.

Nanda says:

Not at all. Please keep them coming.

Hi Nanda: So the questions keep coming:)

In the Seedha Path versions - do I not chant the kavacam, athargala

and kilakam? I ask cause you told me those chapters are the ones one

should start the study and recitation of the Chandi Path with?

Since I don't own the MP3 of the Chandi Path yet (I still have to buy

an MP3 Player) I kind of chanted to tunes I liked. Would this be

generally acceptable?

Another somewhat different question: Since it seems unlikely for

different reasons for the time being that I'll be able to make it to

California from Germany to come into closer contact with the ashram

and the gurus yet I do feel a rather strong connection - to whom and

how do I address personal questions concerning sadhana? Just here in

the group?

Thanks for your help

Hi Dharmavidya,

Glad to know that the questions keep coming !!!

Yes, the Seedha Path tradition of the Chandi does NOT require us to

chant the Kavach, Argala, Kilaka etc. The version of the Chandi

which requires these three as well as the three chapters on the

secrets (that come after the 13 chapters) is called the Sharanga

Chandi or the 6-limbed Chandi.

Many of us chant the Kavach by itself even if we dont have time to

chant the Chandi. For example, I chant the Kavach on my way to work

in the morning.

Chanting the Chandi to our own tune ... hmmm generally we DO tend to

bring in our own variations to the sound/tune.And the tune changes

depending on the number of the verses that we try to chant per

breath. As your breathing pattern changes so does your tune. The idea is to

chant a consistent number of verses to the

outbreath per each recitation of the Chandi, and also to increase

our capacity to chant more verses to the breath per each breath =

for example if we chant 2 verses to the breath, then even if our

lung capacity improves during that recitation we do NOT chant 4 or 5

verses but continue with the 2 until the end. The NEXT day or the

NEXT time we sit down we can begin with 4 and then end with 4. ie

Rule of thumb is to continue and finish with whatever pranayam that

we started out with.

In a nutshell, it is okay to have your own tune, but just ensure

that the tune does not come in the way of increasing your capacity

to chant more verses to the breath.

To whom would you address personal questions concerning sadhana -

well, I understand your position, and would request you to post what

you can here so that others too may benefit , as we are by the

questions that you have posted so far. If they are VERY personal,

you can send them to me directly and I can forward to Swamiji when

appropriate.
