Guest guest
>>>"what is true giving ? What is generosity ? How do we donate our time/money/energy in an appropriate way ? I look forward to your responses."<< Dear Latha, As soon as I read this, I thought to myself, "Swamiji and Shree Maa". To me, they are the best example of true generosity that I can think of. Originally, I met Shree Maa and Swamiji during one of their tours. Then, whenever they would arrive in my part of the country, I would go for satsang. I was with another teacher at the time, however, and when I left this teacher (due to some very unpleasant circumstances which I won't go into here), I was quite distraught. Several months later, with quite a bit of trepidation, I wrote to Swamiji about a Hanuman puja I wanted to perform, asking his advice about some particular part of the puja. Not only did he answer me but sent me a recording of the puja so I could learn it. After that, whenever I would ask for help, advice or information, he would ALWAYS offer it with total generosity...meaning, he had absolutely NO agenda whatsoever. It didn't matter than I was not a devotee of Maa's or that he didn't know me personally. All that mattered was that I had asked for help with my practice. This seems to be the attitude that Shree Maa and Swamiji both have and it is so rare these days....they just GIVE...no questions asked, no wondering what is "appropriate", no charging fees, no checking people out.....just giving. This website is an example of their generosity. It is incredibly inspiring when a spritual teacher acts this way, following the Vedic tradition. When someone is totally generous in this manner, it creates a kind of ripple effect in that we all want to emulate their example. So, when I think of generosity, I try to remember not to set any "rules and regulations" and to just give to the best of my capacity. thanks, sadhvi
