One is that if we give, donate, etc. without regard for results, that is true generosity. In a way this answer is the same; it was given to me by my therapist who was trying to help me understand that my parent's gifts always had strings attached: if a gift has an excpectation, then it is not a true gift, it is a contingency (meaning contingent on some result the giver expects ... in the case of my parents, this was always a secret, so I never knew if I was doing the right thing.
