Guest guest
Kalia, The one that really gets me, in this list, is "sleeping", though "speaking", too, is difficult to understand. However, verse 38 says, "By means of whose instigation consciousness illuminates the object of awareness, while consciousness itself is not illuminated. By means of which the waking, dreaming and dreamless sleep and other states of consciousness are illuminated. Therefore, we bow down to the respected Guru." The verse may be (inconcert with the other verses which follow) describing an awakening of consciousness, a developing purity, in which the essense of the Guru Gita, the prasad of the guru, becomes more and more powerful, until the guru is the constant presence underlying everything we do, illuminating every object of awareness. Guest guest
These verses ( 38 included) suggest to me that the same consciousness prevails no matter what the activity. We are in an illusory world, which means that even though our eyes are open and the body is moving from place to place we are asleep. The mind tells the body it is time to sleep but what does the atma do when the body is at rest? I am not the body. I am the pure consciousness that prevails the universe.
