Guest guest
The poem is titled "Vaishnava Jana to" and it loosely translates to "A Godlike man". I hope enjoy it.LoveNanda====================================== A godlike man is one,Who feels another’s painWho shares another’s sorrow,And pride does disdain. Who regards himself as the lowliest of the low,Speaks not a word of evil against any one,One who keeps himself steadfast in words, body and mind,Blessed is the mother who gives birth to such a son. Who looks upon everyone as his equal and has renounced lust,And who honours women like he honours his mother,Whose tongue knows not the taste of falsehood till his last breath,Nor covets another’s worldly goods. He does not desire worldly things,For he treads the path of renunciation,Ever on his lips is Rama’s holy name,All places of pilgrimage are within him. One who is not greedy and deceitful,And has conquered lust and anger,Through such a man Saint Narsaiyon has a godly vision,Generations to come, of such a man, will attain salvation. ..... Another rendition of the same poem goes as follows ... Call him alone a vaishnava, who feels the suffering of others as his ownwho helps those in need, with humility, without pride, without the desire to earn the world's praise, without condemning those who do less whose mind and words are steadfast, who is a wealth beyond wealth to his homeland;who has renounced arrogance, whose conduct is the same towards all, who behaves towards all women as he would to his motherwho walks in the ways of truth, whose hands and mind are not stained by covetous desire;who is not driven by passion or material wantswhose mind is filled with the spirit of renunciationwhose heart and mind exult in the glory of God, he needs no pilgrim's garb, save his body and his thoughtswho is neither avaracious, nor vilewho is free from lust, and free from anger. I, Narsi, long for the company of such a manfor in his presence, we shall be free. ========================================JAI MAANanda Tired of spam? Guest guest
Namaste Nandaji and all, Certainly sounds like our dear Swamiji to me! i like the rendition below best [which is the second one] Although i would change "Vaishnava" to "True Devotee", or like the first rendition "A God like Man" to fit Swamiji better. Yes, it certainly fits our dear Swamiji in every other way! Jai Maa! Jai Swamiji! Jai Thakur! muktimaa Another rendition of the same poem goes as follows ... > > Call him alone a vaishnava, > > who feels the suffering of others as his own > who helps those in need, > with humility, without pride, > > without the desire to earn the world's praise, > without condemning those who do less > > whose mind and words are steadfast, > > who is a wealth beyond wealth to his homeland; > who has renounced arrogance, whose conduct is the same towards all, > who behaves towards all women as he would to his mother > who walks in the ways of truth, > > whose hands and mind are not stained by covetous desire; > who is not driven by passion or material wants > whose mind is filled with the spirit of renunciation > whose heart and mind exult in the glory of God, > > he needs no pilgrim's garb, save his body and his thoughts > who is neither avaracious, nor vile > who is free from lust, and free from anger. > > I, Narsi, long for the company of such a man > for in his presence, we shall be free. > > ======================================== > JAI MAA > Nanda > , Nanda <chandimaakijai> wrote: > > Dear All, > Here is a beautiful poem that I read today.
