Guest guest
Swamiji, I'm not sure if I can get black sesame seeds (I had never heard of them). We have a small Indian market, but I'm afraid they may not have them. What is an acceptable substitute? How about black poppie seeds or black mustard seeds? Thank you. Jai Maa! Guest guest
Excuse me for inserting my 2 cents worth here ; We get them at the food co- op, in bulk. They seem to be pretty common in health food stores and co- ops. Interestingly, Tibeten Buddhist fire yagyas use black sesame seeds, and the purpose for them in the worship is to remove impurity, and negativity. I wonder if black sesame seeds are specifically a part of the recipe for this purpose in our tradition? --- Chris Kirner <chriskirner1956 wrote: > Swamiji, > > I'm not sure if I can get black sesame seeds (I had > never heard of > them). Guest guest
dear Chris, black sesame seeds are not as difficult to find as you may think. Any health food store will have them, as well as any asian market, especially korean, or japanese. i was in Rishikesh in laxman-jul in india. The stores there were extemely limited! It was amavasya and we were planning to do kali puja that night. We went to many stores, every shopkeeper said that we would have to go into RIshikesh town to get something like this, which was far away at the time, and not in our schedule..the eight shop we went into, after describing in broken Hindi what we wanted had the seeds, and a coconut too! Never underestimate the power of MA! Jai ma! --- Chris Kirner <chriskirner1956 wrote: > Swamiji, > > I'm not sure if I can get black sesame seeds (I had > never heard of > them). Guest guest
Hi Andrea. Good to hear from you! I guess, as I was saying to Nirmalananda, I just haven't noticed them, if they're really as common as everyone's saying. I'll just go have a look. I know I shouldn't underestimate Maa, but I admit I often do... Jai Maa!
