Guest guest
I have a couple of questions -why does the yoni in a Shiva Lingam face north? and which direction are we supposed to sit, east? What is the significance, if any, to sitting(or not) directly in front of the yoni? Nanda ventures a tentative response :We would face north , as would the yoni. We could face east too. In any case we would not sit directly in front of the yoni as that means we are facing South and and really looking at Shiva's back. Is there any significance , Swamiji to not sitting directly in front of the yoni? Thank you for your time Swamiji's response: I agree with your reply. Also, if you sit facing the yoni, if it is a large yoni, you will not be able to reach to the top of Shiva. Guest guest
that is really interesting, as i too have been FACING the lingam. dig what swamiji says, he is giving us a hint about duality in our devotions!!!!!!!!!! , Nanda <chandimaakijai> wrote: > Question from Eric: > I have a couple of questions -why does the yoni in a Shiva Lingam face north? and which direction are we supposed to sit, east? Guest guest
to be honest Steve i am still confused about this. does this mean that the area of the yoni, where the liquid is most likely to flow into the container is nearer to the worshipper? or farther away, pointing the direction we are facing? and i don't understand your point about duality, either. just that kind of day i guess. Guest guest
one way to look at it might be: if we are facing the yoni, we are assuming a dualistic approach, when we look in the same direction as the yoni, we are assuming the "svahaa!" [i am one with god!] attitude. , "ecjensen_us" <ecjensen_us> wrote: > to be honest Steve i am still confused about this. does this mean > that the area of the yoni, where the liquid is most likely to flow > into the container is nearer to the worshipper? or farther away, > pointing the direction we are facing? and i don't understand your > point about duality, either. just that kind of day i guess. > > JAI MA > > , "Steve Connor" <sconnor@a...> > wrote: > > that is really interesting, as i too have been FACING the lingam. > > > > dig what swamiji says, he is giving us a hint about duality in our > > devotions!!!!!!!!!! > > > > , Nanda <chandimaakijai> > wrote: > > > Question from Eric: > > > I have a couple of questions -why does the yoni in a Shiva > Lingam > > face north? and which direction are we supposed to sit, east? Guest guest
that's a good one. i was thinking that facing the yoni(being Kali) meant we can't face Kali(and Kali is the biggest yoni after all), we must be going in Her direction in order to get to the sahasrara chakra. i mean if we are Siva. because he said that we can't reach the top of Siva. i guess either way you want to go with the flow. thanks for your help. i still am not sure what "facing" means... , "Steve Connor" <sconnor@a...> wrote: > one way to look at it might be: if we are facing the yoni, we are > assuming a dualistic approach, when we look in the same direction as > the yoni, we are assuming the "svahaa!" Guest guest
it's an issue with those whose spiritual aspirations are devotionally based more than inquiring into the Self. Ramakrishna himself had to process that, to proceed from the stance of the devotee to complete immersion in the Self, even though he always kept to the bhav of the devotee. so "facing" has that aspect of duality, "i am bowing to you." at least, that is my take on it. eventually we "are" shiva, so we cannot face shiva, everywhere we look we see shiva, shivas's form is originating from within ourselves. it's all pretty interpretive until we get there, speaking then from a genuinely experienced truth for ourselves. , "ecjensen_us" <ecjensen_us> wrote: > that's a good one. i was thinking that facing the yoni(being Kali) > meant we can't face Kali(and Kali is the biggest yoni after all), we > must be going in Her direction in order to get to the sahasrara > chakra. i mean if we are Siva. because he said that we can't reach > the top of Siva. i guess either way you want to go with the flow. > thanks for your help. i still am not sure what "facing" means... > > , "Steve Connor" <sconnor@a...> > wrote: > > one way to look at it might be: if we are facing the yoni, we are > > assuming a dualistic approach, when we look in the same direction > as > > the yoni, we are assuming the "svahaa!" Guest guest
ok try this one on, eric. neither you nor i can get to the top of the lingam because shiva is INFINITE! ... as long as we have a "face" ... a self image ... so ... what are all these pujas and things, facing east and north and all that? ways to express your devotion for the infinite. and all these gods are forms, ways to appreciate the aspects of the eternal. jai maa, victory to you, eric, as you feel the smile on your limitless face, as you transcend yourself, as truth and bliss endlessly radiate! , "Chris Kirner" <chriskirner1956> wrote: > Oh, man!! Guest guest
uncle! you are so right. i guess it's best not to be too rigid when worshipping God(the infinite). you have to approach it from any and all directions to really appreciate the aspects of the eternal. , "Steve Connor" <sconnor@a...> wrote: > ok try this one on, eric. > > neither you nor i can get to the top of the lingam because shiva is > INFINITE! ... as long as we have a "face" ... a self image ... > > so ... what are all these pujas and things, facing east and north and > all that? ways to express your devotion for the infinite. and all > these gods are forms, ways to appreciate the aspects of the eternal. > > jai maa, victory to you, eric, as you feel the smile on your > limitless face, as you transcend yourself, as truth and bliss > endlessly radiate! > > > > , "Chris Kirner" > <chriskirner1956> wrote: > > Oh, man!!
