Guest guest
Hi and welcome. When worshiping Shiva, its not the size of the linga that's important, its the depth of your devotion that matters. The story at the beginning of the book, in English is what you should read first. It talks directly about the size of Shiva. sporkubus wrote: > Hi, I'm new here. I just ordered the Beginner Shiva Puja book and am > waiting for it to come in. Guest guest
OM NAMAH SIVAYA Welcome new here. i think Brians comments are very appropriate as usual. there is also a great resource that Nanda put together that is in the files section. i can sympathize with your computer problems as i have been having a few a them myself. it seems i had a bad memory card in my computer and it was really reaking havoc. it got so my computer wasn't working at all. i am having a new memory card put in to replace the bad one. i hope the service tech will show up today and that this will correct the problem. anyway there is much wisdom around here. do use it to your advantage. Guest guest
I agree and am aware that the size isn't important to the puja, but this linga is so small and fragile that it is difficult to handle without fear of breaking it, and I can't see myself thinking about anything else during worship. If there is no place to get a larger one online, and no way to make one that doesn't require heaps of time and skill, then perhaps somebody could recommend a replacement idol or image that can be found online. Guest guest
We actually have one shiva lingam that we found in the stream behind the house. Of course it's not from the Holy River in India, it's just a stone that has more or less the correct shape. But it's really the devotion that counts anyway, not the stone. If one can be fortunate enough to have an authentic lingam from the Narmada River, that's REALLY good, but it's not a requirement. Just love and devotion to God is all that's needed. Guest guest
I had a friend who became a devotee of Maa. He was so very devoted and full of bhakti. He went into a store to look for Shiva Lingams. This particular store has so many very beautiful lingams, all authentic from India, and all sizes large and small. However, the prices were very very high. This brother was so upset - He was like Jesus at the temple where he got mad at the money changers. He left the store very dejected since he could not justify paying so much, even for a small Shiva Lingam. This brother was so mad. He went home and prayed to Maa for a long time, just about his frustration, you know. About a week later, a Shiva lingam arrived in the mail - from Maa. He had not spoken to her about any of this, exept in prayer - not on the phone or by mail. That Lingam is a very special one. Mother hears us if we call upon her very strongly and with pure sincerity. Guest guest
Wow, that's really amazing! To be honest, I decided right after I posted my last message that I should stop worrying about it completely. Devotion really is what counts: if Shiva wants me to have a lingam, I'm sure He will provide. I know this group is devoted to Maa, but I have to admit I've only heard of her in passing and unfortunately don't know her story as well as I'd like! I only found this group thanks to the Beginners Puja book. Can anybody provide me with further resources about her and her life?
