Dear ecjensen ~ I must have missed your original post, and I am way behind again, but I am glad muktimaa included your whole post in her reply. (Thank you sweetie pie.) When I saw Maa and Swami in Colorado during their last tour, they did a homa by the side of a river. It was so beautiful. I was so into it ... even though I did not understand everything Swami was saying, whenever he mentioned the name of a God or Goddess, it was like greeting a friend, and I was so happy. I was happy to throw rice into the fire. But at one point I dropped some on the ground. I picked it up and threw it in the fire, and the lady next to practically yelled at me. "You can't do that," she said, "the rice as become unpure; if it happens again, leave it on the ground." All my bad/sad/unworthyness, Catholic brimstone and hellfire, guilt, etc. buttons got pushed big time, and it was some time before I was able to get myself out of that old programming and back into the homa. It is interesting that people sometimes think they know enough to speak for Swami of Maa and tell others what is or isn't okay. Again, I thank you for sharing this story. Guest guest
Jai Maa to all, When we perform a homa any masala(rice, barley) that falls on the floor Swamiji says we offer to the ants and other creatures outside. They get their fair share, too. Guest guest
yes, Linda don't misunderstand. the story i spoke of was not about Swami Satyananda it was a story regarding a different Swami. and i just found it interesting and in that spirit thought i would share it with the group. agree with you it would be best to let Shree Maa and Swamiji speak for themselves. i can't imagine they need anyone to speak for them. and obviously from Parvati's response, they wouldn't use the rice. i was just going with the flow, like the old saying, "when in Rome". you know what i mean, use it or don't, i really didn't care either way. i was just happy to be with Siva. sorry for any misunderstanding. , "parv108" <parv108> wrote: > Jai Maa to all, > > When we perform a homa any masala(rice, barley) that falls on > the floor Swamiji says we offer to the ants and other creatures > outside. Guest guest
Many things like that happen all the time around great beings like Maa and Swami. It can be very painful. Once a devotee yelled at my wife for pointing her feet towards Maa. My wife had no idea that it was considered inapropriate, having been raised in the west, where no such custom exists. I think it did some damage. Too bad it couldn't have been said in a kind way. On the other hand, we can look at these incedents as part of the fire of ego burning that happens around the Gurus. All in all though, I really think people should be nice to each other, and if something needs to be said, it should be said in a way that the person can hear it, not in a way that might actually drive the person away.
