Guest guest
Day 4 Shiva Puja class-camphor Let's review what we have learned so far.1. recite Shiva gayatri (pg.6 Beg.)2. recite Shiva dhyaanam (pg.11-13 Adv.)3. offer the light, incense (pg. 13-14 Adv.)Now we will offer the camphor. This particular mantra is not in the beginner shiva book but you will find it in most of the other puja books. The mantra begins on page 15 in the Advanced Shiva puja under the title "aaraatrikam" When you offer the camphor you will also wave it in a clockwise rotation as the light and incense. It begins: om canraadityau ca dharanii..... om namah sivaaya aaraatrikam samarpayaami" For this offering you will need a camphor holder, a brass or other metal container. Sometimes the camphor comes in very small pieces(little squares) or bigger squares, or one big chunk. In any event you only need a little piece so if it is a big chunk you can break off a small amount to burn.Camphor has many qualities and benefits. It is used in many kinds of medicines. Is has healing properties. It is white in color signifying purity. It also purifies the atmosphere when it burns. On another level the offering of camphor symbolizes the blazing purity of devotion. In the Kali puja book the following names are associated with Kali and camphor. #71 kapuuraamodamoditaa SHE WHO BECOMES EXTREMELY PLEASED FROM THE OFFERING OF CAMPHOR#72 karpuuramaalaabharanaa SHE WHO DISPLAYS A GARLAND COVERED BY CAMPHOR#73 karpuuracananoksitaa SHE WHO ENJOYS SANDLEWOOD MIXED WITH CAMPHOR#74 karpuurakaaranaahlaadaa SHE WHO GIVES THE CAUSE OF JOY WITH CAMPHOR#75 karpuuraamrtapaayinii SHE WHO DRINKS THE NECTAR WITH CAMPHOR#76 karpuurasaagarasnaataa SHE WHO BATHES IN THE OCEAN OF CAMPHOR#77 karpuurasaagaraalayaa SHE WHO DISSOLVES IN THE OCEAN OF CAMPHOR(From the 1000 names of Kali in the Kali puja book available at shreemaa.org) Tired of spam? Guest guest
Camphor is also symbolic of the mind. It burns without leaving any trace behind, nothing is left. We all seek that state of surrender, mindlessness, egoless ..... for only in this state will we see and experience the divine. Lord Shiva is described as white, pure white like camphor. May we all loose our minds in that Beloved Lord Shiva. Om namah Shiva. Start your day with - make it your home page
