Day 9 Shiva puja class- Aachamana Namaste to all:Today we will focus

on “aachamana” which is thepurification of our mouth and hands. You

will findthis on page 10 in the Beginner Shiva puja and on page21 in

the Advanced Shiva puja.We will follow the mantras in the Advanced

Shiva Pujafrom pg.21 -23.The purpose of aachamana is to purify our

mouth andhands so that everything we say and touch is purifiedand

clean. We say “Om Visnu” -"Om consciousness" aswe sip water to

purify our mouth so that consciousnesscan speak through us.Let’s look

at page 21 in the Advanced Shiva book:The mantra begins “om kesavaaya

namah svaahaa......It ends on page 23 with “om suuryyascameti

mantrasyabrahmaa rsih.......Note: You will already have a small

container of waterset up on your

altar. You will use this water for aachamana. It has not been purified

yet but we will get to this soon. We will follow the directions for

aachamana from thebeginner shiva puja on page 11.“Pour some water in

the right palm. Sip some waterafter each: om vishnu.Except now we

are adding 3 new mantras before this.Om kesavaaya ..... (sip water)Om

maadhavaaya.....(sip water)om govindaaya.....(sip water)om vishnu

(sip water)om vishnu (sip water)om vishnu (sip water)Note: After

sipping water on the last Vishnu take alittle more water and sprinkle

the water on your hands. Then dry them. We want to clean our hands

afterhaving touched our mouth. Swamiji explains the word kesavaaya:Ka

means the cause, the cause of origin(Brahma)E means the protector

(Vishnu)Sa means Shiva.Keshavaa is the one of beautiful kesh or hair.

Or itis the cause of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva

in unity. The word Govinda:Go in Sanskrit means light. It also means

cow. HereSwamiji interprets Govinda to mean one pointed light, not one

pointed cow. (lol)After reciting “Om Vishnu “ 3 times, the rest of the

mantras are just a straightrecitation.Begin....Om tat visnoh paramam

padam.....End...om suuryyascameti mantrasya......Take note of the

following mantra:Om apavitrah pavitro vaa( Om the Impure and the

Purereside within all objects)Any thoughts or ideas on

this?Homework:Please read aloud the sanskrit or transliteration ofthe

aachamana as described above in the Advanced Shivabook pages

Continued thanks for your guidance.

The last verse of the Sivastakam refers to the flowers offered as our

evil thoughts .... what is the best point of the puja to recite the

Sivastakam?

Comment on "the Impure and the Pure reside within all objects"

In the Sutras we learn that from the moment of conception in the womb,

the life of duality begins.

Sutra 6 says when the two wives, purity and impurity can sleep

together in the same house, when they embrace, then you will find the

darsana of Kali. So it is with Gu Ru. Gu means darkness ru means

light but Guru is the purest of the purest and highest of the highest

and sees only the pure and the good in all. Being constant at our

sadhana, transforms the impure mind to one of love and purity.

Paranam.
